Hand-made all the way. When you arrive on Waiheke Island by passenger ferry, take a casual 15 minute stroll from the wharf to the valley bush walk which starts behind the carpark and comes out at Church Bay. Follow the signs to the winery enjoying the stunning views, drop in, ring the bell and have a chat with the winemaker while he pours you a taste of his Pinot Grigio Blush wine, Gold-medal Syrah, Syrah Rose, Cabernet Franc, single-vineyard Sauvignon Blanc or trophy-winning Montepulciano. Taste the difference!
Award winning premium single vineyard, single varietal wines. Jurassic Ridge is a small 1.6 hectare family vineyard situated in historic Church Bay (Hangaura) on the West end of Waiheke Island in the Hauraki Gulf. This was the site of one of the earliest missionary churches in Auckland, and doubled as an early sports ground for Auckland. Our vineyard enjoys views over the Bay, the Hauraki Gulf islands and the Auckland city skyline, just 35 minutes away by fast catamaran ferry.
The original meaning of the name Hangaura seems to have been lost for ever, but it is of course no coincidence at all that the literal translation of hanga is ‘to make’ , while ura – right across Polynesia – is ‘red’. The perfect place to make red wine!
