A Nice Night Out with Grant Bridger & Stephen Small on Piano
(Waiheke’s prodigal son) Grant Bridger and pianist Stephen Small invite you to join them at Artworks Community Theatre for “A Nice Night Out”: an unplugged and intimate evening featuring Grant’s personally selected favourites from musical theatre and memorabilia from yesteryear to yesterday. Grant is one of New Zealand’s most experienced and well-loved singers and theatre performers, having spent some 30-odd (very odd!) years in professional theatre.
Stephen is a pianist who studied Jazz with Ian Marcus in London in the early 90s. Influenced by all the greats but mostly John Coltrane and Michael Brecker, he mixes many genres into his music and has worked with the London Philharmonic, English Pops Orchestra, New Zealand Symphony and Auckland Philharmonia Orchestras, and performed with US rock icon Belinda Carlisle.
Grant says “You can expect to hear some wonderful musical theatre songs from Superstar, Chicago, Carousel, Godspell, Chess, and Phantom: from the Beatles to Bach and Sondheim, and even an original or two. A ukulele and gumboots may also feature in the mix! That’s all I will say. Except to add that I’d like to die singing. And I promise we will leave people feeling better than when they arrived at the theatre. So I suppose I’d better not die singing at Artworks!”
