If you don’t have a car, or you only intend to stay for one night and you would prefer to be central to the local shops and restaurants then the central hub of Oneroa would be the best place to sleep for the night.

Oneroa is 1.5km from Matiatia where the passenger ferry comes in and is around a 20-minute walk from the wharf. Though there are buses that meet the ferry and taxis are available.

Palm Beach and Onetangi are also popular suburbs to consider and Rocky Bay is a great option if you want the to get away from it all. It is certainly off the beaten track.

3. Check Amenities / Facilities / Services.

It’s always a good idea to check out what’s on offer. Double-check the room type, the amenities and the layout of the room.

Some extra savings can be made if they offer;

– Breakfast
– Free internet
– Loan of any bikes, kayaks, etc…
– Shuttle service to either ferry terminal
– Use of a car

4. Read their reviews.

Trip Advisor Waiheke Accommodation Reviews

We would recommend that you always check the rating of any place you choose to book. Trip Advisor has made this process super easy, but don’t just give a quick glance at the top two or three reviews, read through as many reviews as you’ve got time for to get a broader picture of the place you’re heading to.

5. Is it possible to book direct?

If you book your Waiheke accommodation direct with the owner then all of your money will go directly to them. As there is no middle man involved (i.e. Travel agents) then it should be cheaper to book direct as the owner does not have to pay any commission. Everyone wins! If you do find a cheaper alternative through a travel agent then just check with the owner to see if they can match it.

6. Book in advance.

The demand for accommodation on Waiheke increases considerably during the summer months, as do the prices. Booking accommodation before you go gives you the peace of mind that you will have somewhere to stay upon arrival on the island.

New Zealand’s peak holiday season runs from November through to March, coinciding with summer. During this time accommodation and activities can become booked out with both locals and visitors. From April through to October pre-booking is recommended, but not essential.
