Annual Waiheke Walking Festival

The festival often takes place towards the end of October every year, with approximately fifty walks covering a range of topics, terrain, and duration.  There really is something for almost every age and fitness level. The wonderful team of guides and volunteers ensures your walking experience is one that will want you to come back year after year – we know a lot of you do!

What does it cost to walk?

Approximately half of our walks are free.

Can I bring my dog?

While some of the walks are dog-friendly and we welcome dogs on leads, it’s important to note that many walks feature the ‘No Dogs’ icon. This restriction is in place to protect the island’s rich birdlife, including vulnerable and endangered species. Please visit our website to confirm the dog policy for each walk, and be aware that we rigorously enforce the ‘No Dogs’ rule on designated trails.

What if it’s raining?

While our goal is to green-light all scheduled walks, the safety of our walkers, volunteers, and guides is our top priority. If adverse weather conditions, such as high winds or heavy rainfall that may lead to slips, pose a safety risk, we will regrettably cancel the walk. In such instances, we will promptly notify all registered walkers via email, no later than 7 a.m. on the morning of the walk. Therefore, check your email before heading out, especially if the weather or short-term forecast suggests inclement conditions. It’s worth noting that in the nine previous festivals, we’ve only had to make this decision once!
