Sandy Bay is a secluded spot on the north side of the island and being ‘off-the-beaten-track’ it is often less populated than Oneroa, Palm Beach, and Onetangi. As the name suggests, it is a sandy, shallow bay which offers safe swimming.
Sandy Bay is the only north side beach with a boat ramp, it has public toilets, a picnic table, and a small parking area. If you wish to get here via public transport you need to take the number 2, Palm Beach/ Rocky Bay bus and get off on Hauraki Road. A 15 minute walk down Coromandel Road will take you down to Sandy Bay.
